Omnidex Text

Omnidex has always provided the ability to index keywords in databases. In version 4.1 of Omnidex, these capabilities are being expanded with a collection of enhancements to support text retrieval applications within a SQL environment. This enhancement allows Omnidex indexes to be installed on large amounts - up to **64MB per record - of text stored in database columns OR external documents.

At this time, Omnidex supports plain text and html text documents, however, support for Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF documents is under development. Additionally, support for tag-specific searches of markup languages like HTML and XML is also in the works.

These enhancements will support applications which need to index text, regardless of whether it is located in databases or documents. The powerful SQL features allow flexible searches within a variety of client-based, Web-based or server-based applications.

Data Types

We've added several new data types to make data type declarations more intuitive, closely matching the major RDBMS', as well as some new textual data types to facilitate the Omnidex Text enhancement (see above).

We've also changed the way data type lengths are declared, to more closely match the major RDBMS'. This includes default sizes for data types that can have only one length value as well as placing the length in parenthesis and eliminating the "LENGTH" keyword.

The old syntax is still supported.
