Creating Omnidex Snapshots

Omnidex Snapshots are usually created by exporting data from an underlying database; however, they can also be created by combining data from any source. Omnidex Snapshots can be created using the Omnidex EXPORT statement, or they can be create using any database or ETL tool that can create a raw data file or a delimited file.

Overview

Omnidex Snapshots provide an easy, portable, high-performing copy of a database or a data warehouse. The data from an underlying data source is stored in raw data files, and is usually heavily indexed. This snapshot database can then be moved to other servers for analysis, or even replicated and deployed in production.

Portability

Omnidex Snapshots are extremely easy to move around as they are simply a collection of files. They can be backed up, moved to other servers, or if allowed, transferred to an analyst's laptop.

Scalability

----------

Scalability

Omnidex Snapshots can be easily copied to multiple servers for additional scalability. This replication can provide completely independent environments, even with independent web servers and application servers. Load balancers can be used to distribute traffic between the multiple servers to achieve extraordinary scalability.
