Omnidex is fully integratable with many third party container application through the Omnidex ODBC Gateway Interface. An Omnidex ODBC data source is required for this communication to take place.

Please see Prerequisites before beginning.

The first step in integrating Omnidex any third party ODBC compliant application is to use the Omnidex utility DSEDIT, to create an Omnidex ODBC data source that points to the Omnidex Environment Catalog on the server.

The type of data source required, Generic, USER or SYSTEM, will vary depending on the container applications requirements. Omnidex supports all three types.

See DSEDIT for more information about creating a data source.

Prerequisites

The discussions contained within this section are designed to assist with the setup and integration of Omnidex with third party ODBC container applications.

These discussions assume the following steps have already been completed:

  • Omnidex has already been installed and tested on a database somewhere on the network.
  • An Omnidex Network Services (OdxNet) listener is running on the same machine that the Omnidex enhanced database is located.
  • Permissions are properly set to allow access to the Omnidex enhanced database.
  • Omnidex client has already been installed on the client machine.
  • The third party container application has already been installed and tested on the client machine.
