Each new version of Omnidex brings a collection of improvements, from new features to increased performance. Here are the primary features and enhancements in the major releases of Omnidex:
Omnidex 4.0 is a major milestone in the evolution of Omnidex. The Omnidex Indexing Engine received a major upgrade. Designed exclusively for the Microsoft and UNIX operating systems, the 4.0 Indexing Engine removes many of the restrictions imposed by other operating systems. Beyond the many internal improvements, this version of the Indexing Engine supports native database rowids of any datatype and size, making indexing of relational databases much simpler. This version of the Indexing Engine also supports up to 4 billion rows per table, and up to 2,000 index files.
Omnidex 4.0 represents the culmination of years of work to provide a generalized, optimized Omnidex SQL Engine for both relational and non-relational databases. Throughout the Omnidex 3.x series of releases, Omnidex incrementally added SQL features. This culminated in full support for optimized SQL in versions Omnidex 3.8 and Omnidex 4.0. Omnidex 3.8 utilized the 3.x Indexing Engine, which continues to be supported on the Hewlett-Packard MPE/XL and Digital VMS operating systems. Omnidex 4.0 utilizes the 4.0 Indexing Engine, described above, and is only available on Microsoft Windows and various UNIX operating systems.
