Each new version of Omnidex brings a collection of improvements, from new features to increased performance. Here are the primary features and enhancements in the major releases of Omnidex:
Omnidex now optimizes most queries that request counts, grouped counts and distinct counts using multiple, concurrent Omnidex indexes. Previous versions of Omnidex required administrators to contruct multi-column indexes to satisfy these queries, and now most queries are optimized using individual indexes on each column.
Omnidex now adds AutoComplete to its features designed to support high-performance, interactive applications. AutoComplete allows the application designer to display real-time choices based on the characters typed so far, similar to auto-complete features found in Internet search engines. AutoComplete can be activated on a per-column basis, and can be easily integrated with PowerSearch and ActiveCounts.
Omnidex has made the PowerSearch feature much easier to implement. After adding some simple metadata to the Omnidex Environment File, queries can automatically use PowerSearch by simply including a POWERSEARCH option or by turning PowerSearch on for the connection.
Omnidex now supports attaching tables or databases from one Omnidex environment into another environment. This allows queries to easily span the data and indexes from multiple environments.
Omnidex now supports SQL syntax for creating, referencing and dropping query segments. Omnidex uses internal index files to represent query segments, dramatically improving the typical approach of temporary tables used by relational databases.
Omnidex now supports real-time connection and query monitoring. Administrators can view all current connections and queries, their current state and statistics. Administrators can also view the past 30 days of connection and query activity to understand usage trends, resource requirements, and performance metrics. Connection and query monitoring is automatic for all Omnidex processes on the server.
Omnidex now supports a universal connection string syntax throughout the product, streamlining the process of connecting to Omnidex databases.
Omnidex now supports three editions: Omnidex Enterprise Edition, Omnidex Developer Edition, and Omnidex Trial Edition.
Omnidex has changed its licensing codes starting with version 5.2. After installing Omnidex 5.2, existing users should run the OdxSQL program and issue a “REQUEST LICENSE” command to obtain a new license code.
